Traveling by air?
There are two main airports in the Chicago area. Both offer public transportation to downtown via CTA trains.
Getting from O’Hare International Airport to the Palmer House: The conference hotel is 18.5 miles from O’Hare International Airport.
Taxi: $30-$40 (estimate); Cabs are available at the lower level curb front (outside of baggage claim) at each terminal. Use the designated Taxi stands to ensure you have a licensed taxi driver. Shared ride service is available for those that wish to share a ride and pay a flat rate to certain destinations if multiple parties are available for the trip. Shared ride fares from O’Hare International Airport to downtown are $22 per person.
CTS train: $5; Take the Blue Line towards Forest Park. Get off at Monroe stop and walk 0.1 miles to the Palmer House. Travel time: 40-45 minutes
*If you are coming from Terminals 1, 2 or 3, follow signs in the airport to “CTA Trains” or “Trains to City”. From Terminal 5, follow signs to the Airport Transit System (ATS). Ride the train to Terminal 2 and exit the train at the station. Then, follow signs to “CTA Trains” or “Trains to City”. (Note: There is no Terminal 4 at O’Hare).
Getting from Midway International Airport to the Palmer House: The conference hotel is 12 miles from Midway International Airport.
Taxi: $28-30 (estimate); Cabs are available on a first come, first serve basis from the lower level curb front of the terminal. Use the designated Taxi Stands to ensure you have a licensed taxi driver. Shared ride service is available for those that wish to share a ride and pay a flat rate to certain destinations if multiple parties are available for the trip. Shared ride fares from Midway International Airport to downtown are $16 per person.
CTA train: $2.25; Walk 0.6 miles to the CTA Train station at Midway. Take the Orange Line towards Loop. Get off at Harold Washington Library stop and walk 0.3 miles to the Palmer House. Travel time: 20-25 minutes
*The fully-accessible Midway station is situated just east of the air-port terminal building and is connected to the airport via an enclosed walkway. Follow the signs to “CTA Trains” or “Trains to City” from the airport. An orange line painted on the ground will guide you there.
Getting Around Chicago
GAS provides free shuttles between the Palmer House and the demonstration venues March 20-22, Thursday - Saturday. Visit the shuttle schedule page for more information.
A Shuttle from the Palmer House to the reception and back will be provided for those registered for this event. Shuttle begins at 5:30 pm.
Chicago has a wonderful public transportation system, including buses and ‘L’ trains that cover most of the city. Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) passes can be purchased at certain ‘L’ stations and area attractions. CTA Pass Machines dispense 1-Day, 3-Day and 7-day passes. These passes allow unlimited rides for one person for a designated period of time from when they are first used for fare payment.
