Students and Continuing Education

The Glass Art Society offers many benefits specifically to full-time student members and encourages and supports students of all ages and levels.

Student Membership

GAS offers discounted membership for full-time students ($40 USD) enrolled in accredited programs along with providing special opportunities just for student members. Proof of full-time student status is required when joining.

Classes & Workshops

View a list of schools offering classes, workshops and/or degree programs. Schools are organized alphabetically by country and state for the US. Download various lists and start researching the right program or class for you in your area.

Student Scholarships

Student Scholarships are available to assist full-time student members of GAS (must meet eligibility requirements) in attending the Annual Glass Art Society Conference which is held in a new location every year.  Learn more about how to apply for a student scholarship. Deadline for applications for assistance in attending the San Jose conference is February 15, 2015.

Student Group Demonstrations at Annual Conference

The Glass Art Society is sometimes able to offer demonstration slots to Groups of Students at the annual conference.  An application must be submitted and they are juried by the Education committee of the GAS Board of Directors. Not available every year. Not available for 2015.

Student Representative to the GAS Board of Directors

The Student Representative to the Glass Art Society Board is a vital position and we encourage all student members to apply by self-nomination supported by two letters of recommendation. The student representative functions as the primary intermediary (and liaison) between that part of the GAS membership that is comprised of students and the general membership (as represented by the standing board). Next deadline to apply will be fall 2015.

Be a GAS Student Liaison

The Glass Art Society recognizes one Student Liaison per accredited school annually to represent the students and professors for that school. Learn more and sign up to become a liaison.

International Student Exhibitions

One opportunity for students is our International Student Exhibition that takes place at the Annual GAS Conference.  All Glass Art Society student members who are currently enrolled full-time in an accredited degree-seeking program are invited to participate.

We also held our first International Student Online Exhibition with a separate Juried Selection Catalogue published on Issuu.com in June 2013. Due to the great success of the first one the 2014 International Student Online Exhibition and digital Juried Selection Catalogue was recently published in December 2014. Next deadline for participation will be in the Fall of 2015.

The Thesis Shelf

GAS members are graduating from MFA and PhD programs all year long. In an effort to help disseminate the knowledge these students have gathered in their theses, GAS decided in March 2011 to make some of these academic papers available to GAS members online. View the Thesis Shelf
