Design & Display: Welding & Glass Fusing Meet (Circles)
February 15, 2014
FEBRUARY 15 & 22
Make Your Own Glass Displays!
First week of class is held at Chicago Glass Collective; Second week of class is held at Manifold Studio (a few blocks north of Chicago Glass Collective)
This intensive workshop introduces students not only to welding and glass fusing but also to two vibrant local artists’ studios in the Ravenswood Arts Corridor; Chicago Glass Collective and Manifold Studio http://www.manifoldchicago.com/manifold/about/). We have teamed up to teach you how to design your own unique stands for displaying your glasswork.
In this, the first combo-workshop of many, you will start by making a fused glass piece at CGC and the next week you will spend the day at Manifold learning the basics of welding in order to create a steel stand that fits your piece perfectly. This workshop focuses on creating stands for a square shapes to teach how to weld angles, figure weight distribution, fuse multiple layers of glass and contain the shape when melting the glass. All materials are included in the cost of the workshop. Beginners and repeat students are all welcome!
This and/or the December workshop (focusing on circular shapes) is a prerequisite for future multi-week combo classes.
