Joshua DeWall was born and raised in the small town of Galena Illinois. From a young age Mr. DeWall was attracted to the medium of glass and upon graduation from high school, it became his lifelong commitment. Mr. DeWall received a Bachelor of Fine Art from Southern Illinois University and is a MFA candidate from The Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. Joshua has worked nationwide as a glass gaffer, designer, assistant, instructor, and artist at institutions such as: The Pittsburgh Glass Center, The Rochester Institute of Technology, Snow Farm, Williamsburg MA, Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina and The Chrysler Museum Glass Studio in Norfolk VA. Mr. DeWall has received numerous awards including: a fellowship at The Creative Glass Center of America, Artist Residency at the Works in Newark, OH, publicized in the New Glass Review, and a scholarship to Pilchuck Glass School. Currently, Josh is a staff instructor at the Chrysler Museum of Art Glass Studio. He was recently a finalist in the Niche Awards for flame worked glass. This winter Josh will be traveling to Tucson, AZ to be featured as a visiting instructor at the Sonoran Glass Academy and this spring will exhibit his work in “New Waves” at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Virginia Beach, VA.
