Michael Meilahn

ABOUT

Michael Meilahn currently lives, makes art in his studio and grows crops on his farm in central Wisconsin. He began studying glass at University of Wisconsin-River Falls during which time he studied with Erwin Eisch and others in Europe in 1969. Before earning his undergraduate degree, Michael served in the Peace Corp in South America. Working as a graduate assistant, he earned his Master’s Degree in Art at Illinois State University in the 70's; and, then, he chose to return to the farm where he grew up. Michael resisted mixing the two careers by purposefully keeping them separate. Eventually, the art imagery became a story about farming and farming grew to be a business that demanded a more creative venue. Michael has consistently been included and exhibited in National and International galleries, exhibitions; and collections throughout his career such as: the Museum of Art and Design, NY; Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, NY; The Flint Institute of Art, MI; The Haggin Museum of Art, Stockton, CA; The Figge Museum of Art in Davenport, IA; International Exhibition of Glass, Kanazawa, Japan and many others including Corning’s New Glass Review, Neues Glas Magazine, in 1980, 87, 2000 & 2010. He taught glass at Penland School of Crafts and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and his accomplishments include numerous workshops and lectures. He currently serves on the Board of Directors at the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass in Neenah, Wisconsin.
