The Contemporary Glass Society (CGS) is widely regarded as the foremost organisation in the UK for promoting and encouraging cutting edge glass and glass-makers within the wider art world. Founded in 1997, CGS is a non-profit making limited company by guarantee, with dual objectives of encouraging excellence in glass as a creative medium and developing a greater awareness and appreciation of contemporary glass world wide. CGS is aimed at people working in or interested in contemporary glass. A voluntary committee some twelve strong made up mostly from makers but also administrators and students, manage the society. At present we have connections with over 1000 artists, academics, suppliers, collectors, galleries, and enthusiasts and a current membership of over 600.
The CGS committed to equality of opportunity for all and positively values diversity. Its membership embraces high calibre, innovative artists working to the highest professional standards in contemporary glass. Our main objective in 2010 is to foster new links with leading international galleries and museums, to further champion and promote our members to wider audiences.
