Ruth King has been providing artistic and educational direction to Pilchuck Glass School since 2004 in the capacity of Artistic Director. Prior to her current appointment she was professor of art and administered glass programs at The Ohio State University, Alfred University, California College of the Arts, and Rhode Island School of Design, beginning in 1990. King earned her MFA degree from Rhode Island School of Designin 1989. She has completed a number of commissioned installations using neon, glass, and steel and makes more intimately-scaled blown and solid sculpted work, including her most recent series "Simple Solids". King has demonstrated and exhibited internationally, including an exhibition and presentation as featured artist at the Tittot Glass Art Museum in Taiwan. After so many years of teaching, her own intensive self-defined creative exploration with molten glass, and several traditional apprenticeship experiences, Ruth King believes glass to be the best teacher.
