Born in Rhode Island, Matthew Szösz has received a BFA, a BID (Industrial Design), and a MFA (Glass) from Rhode Island School of Design. He has completed residencies at Pilchuck (2007), Wheaton (2008), Nagoya Institute for the Arts (2009), Virginia Commonwealth University (2009-2010), and the Proctor Fellowship at Australia National University (2010). He won the 2009 Jutta Cuny-Franz Memorial Award, and was nominated this year for a Tiffany Foundation Grant. In 2010 he founded Hyperopia Projects, a curatorial organization for cross-genre work. In 2012 he will appear in Renwick Gallery’s exhibition “40 under 40”.
He is currently the Interim Executive Director of Public Glass in San Francisco.
