"The details and events we remember are often distorted toward an idea we have projected upon them. My current artistic exploration involves memories of past scenes, combined and re-envisioned then translated using the process of kiln-fired glass. Memories are as fluid and changing, as the artistic process itself. Like a memory, the glass first exists as hard and brittle. During the heating process the fluid nature of the melting glass adds an energy and organic quality that can be seen as a transformation, in medium and idea. The collection of work culminated my investigation of a visual experience into a fragile yet permanent representation in glass. Being born into an artistic family, my father and grandfather were practicing artists, I continue the family legacy with glass. Glass is the media that reveals this natural vibrancy to its utmost. I enjoy the technique of using glass to create something that is both abstract and literal. “ Alice Benvie-Gebhart earned her bachelor and master's degrees in art education with concentrations in painting and printmaking. She worked as a teacher and painter for many years before discovering fused glass. She now works exclusively in kiln-fired glass.
