ABOUT

Hillary Heckard was raised in Talahalusi the Indigenous name for Napa Valley, California. She attended the University of Oregon in 2004 and received her Bachelors of Art degree in Cultural Anthropology with a minor in music in 2008. While studying abroad at the University of Hawaii Manoa, she found a passion for glassblowing and pursued a Bachelors of Fine Art degree at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2012. She was awarded scholarships for Outstanding Glass Student, the Laila Twigg-Smith Art Fund, Traveling Assistantship Award for the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, Virginia, and a Honorarium from Alfred University for the UrbanGlass Partnership Award. Heckard has exhibited internationally at institutions such as the Chrysler Museum of Art, Portsmouth Museum, Windward Community College, Slack Art Collective, The Belfry, and the Glass Furnace in Istanbul Turkey. Currently she is pursuing a MFA degree in Sculptural and dimensional design at Alfred University. She is interested in using glass and mixed media to investigate Identity, environments, and systems through the notion of impermanence.
