The integration of color, light, texture, and form drive my explorations in fused glass and woven fiber. While I have been weaving—mostly functional work--for more than twenty years, I have been working in fused glass for only the last few years. Glass has allowed me to play with effects of transparency and flowing color in a way that has been incredibly captivating. Recently, I have begun to combine both woven fiber and glass into sculptural pieces. This integration and connectedness of disparate forms and ideas characterized my earlier professional work, beginning with an academic career in interdisciplinary philosophy and art. In subsequent years as a foundation officer and evaluator, I traveled the country extensively to work with grantees who were seeking creative ways to integrate new technologies into their teaching. Along the way, I visited numerous museums and galleries, studying and collecting contemporary crafts. Now able to concentrate on making art, I am influenced by the visual impact of those travels, as well as my immersion in life on the Chesapeake Bay. Recent juried shows and sales have included “Into the Woods” at the Northwinds Gallery in Port Townsend, WA, the James Renwick Associates Show and Sale in Chevy Chase, MD, and “Image and Imagination” at the Mitchell Gallery in Annapolis, MD.
