Liesl Schubel is a visual artist and writer born in southern Ontario in 1990. Her family moved twice while she was young, following her father’s job opportunities first to British countryside, then American, landing in Chicago in 2001. Liesl then headed to the east coast, receiving her BFA from Rhode Island School of Design in 2012, with a major in Glass. She has since continued traveling internationally, pursuing opportunities to expand her understanding of this strange and captivating material at institutions such as Pilchuck Glass School, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio. Liesl currently works as the Registrar at Pilchuck Glass School, while constantly constructing a body of work centered on questions of stability, presence, and the necessity of purposelessness.
