Where can I find information about equipment and glass studio design/construction?

It is very difficult to answer the question, "How do I build a glass studio?". To build a studio takes a lot of research. Each studio is unique and specific to the needs of the artist. There are many factors to take into consideration such as space, equipment, fuel, safety, etc.

Network. Visit studios, talk to those with studios and start understanding studio construction. Get in touch with your local building inspector or Fire Marshall to find out about local specifications. They vary per location and can dictate a specific gas/air configuration.

Write to the GAS office: info@glassart.org, attention Technical Editor of the GASnews newsletter. The Technical Editor may be able to answer your question in the column about technical issues. Please note that there are deadlines for inclusion in the GASnews newsletter so there could be a two-month lag time.

  • Attend the Glass Art Society Annual Conference. Technical issues are a popular topic for lectures and the Technical Display is a perfect place to meet and ask questions face to face with manufacturers and suppliers.
