Welcome to Adelaide

The Australian glass community is delighted to welcome you to Adelaide in 2005.  We are building a conference that we know will give you a great taste of our region and be fascinating, enlightening, and professionally rewarding.  Adelaide is a great place for an event–compact, easy to get around, with great food and wine, and very friendly.  GAS@Ausglass will be centered around a hub in the west end of Adelaide, with demonstrations, lectures, exhibitions and a social venue all within close proximity.  This is to encourage the informal networking and social gatherings that we believe are an essential
part of a successful event.  Creating a great meeting place is also a key feature of our Adelaide “way of doing things.”  You will be able to stay within walking distance of most conference venues, and we’re looking forward to guiding you around the local restaurants and markets.

Adelaide has been an important center for Australian glass for 30 years, and many Australian glass artists have worked or trained here, as well as in the other major Australian centers.  In addressing the theme of Matters of Substance, the conference program is, we believe, a fine balance between inspiring demonstrations, stimulating discussion of relevant and important issues, and the excitement of regular conference features, with a flavor redolent of the Australasian region.  We are very much looking forward to your company in Adelaide in May 2005.

Pauline Mount, Matthew Larwood, and Alison Dunn, Conference Co-Chairs
