2017 Norfolk Gallery Hop
First Friday and Gallery Hop
Friday, June 2, 6 - 11 pm | Free and Open to the Public
Throughout Downtown Norfolk, Norfolk’s NEON Arts District, and Olde Towne Portsmouth
Take a self-guided tour of NEON (New Energy of Norfolk), the official art district in downtown Norfolk. Cultural institutions like the Chrysler Museum of Art and Harrison Opera House anchor the NEON District, while new art venues like Glass Wheel Studio and Work|Release provide artists a place to create and exhibit. First Friday in the District features live music, food trucks, merchandise vendors, and a beer garden with local craft brews. Don’t miss Luke Jerram’s Play Me, I’m Yours, an installation of pianos on streets throughout the neighborhood!
Special exhibits will feature artists from the Washington Glass School, the Chrysler Museum Glass Studio Assistantship Program, the Virginia Glass Guild, and the Glass Art Society. Discover innovative works at our state-of-the-art Slover Public Library, d’Art Center, and the Gordon Art Galleries at Old Dominion University. Ride the ferry to historic Olde Towne Portsmouth and find the Visual Art Center at Tidewater Community College and Portsmouth Cultural Art Center. There are many pop-up and experimental shows to see throughout the walkable area, so keep your eyes open to surprises.
