LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD

Dear Fellow GAS Members,

We're doing things a little differently this year and won’t be printing a pre-conference booklet. We hope that you will appreciate this new format which helps us to reduce paper, allows us to update schedules and events, and provides you with all the conference information in easy to access links.

The 48th Annual GAS Conference, Charting a Course: Visions in Glass, sponsored by Visit St. Pete/Clearwater, will be a celebration of our community’s ingenuity, fortitude, and versatility. There will be lectures, demonstrations, panels and Lec-Mos looking at how careers grow; new directions for success; relationships between science, technology, and glass; and the economics of the marketplace.

St. Petersburg is a city that is quickly becoming known as "The Glass Coast", a place that is transforming into an arts hub and a worldwide destination for glass enthusiasts. St. Petersburg boasts a number of stunning museums including the wonderful Imagine MuseumMorean Arts Center Featuring the Chihuly Collection, and the Salvador Dalí Museum. The Imagine is a new museum dedicated to glass, and a GAS venue partner, with a wonderful growing collection. St Pete is also home to many wonderful galleries and studios including many who will host pop-up exhibitions, events, and demos including Zen Glass Studio and Gallery, and Duncan McClellan Gallery.

The host hotel is the Hilton St. Petersburg Bayfront which puts you in the heart of the waterfront district in downtown near many popular cultural attractions, shops, dining and arts venues. Opening ceremonies and reception will take place at the newly renovated Mahaffey Theater. Members can also choose to register (for an additional fee) and participate in a Sarasota Day Trip to visit the Ringling Museum and Glass Pavillion, and the Richard & Barbara Basch Visual Arts Center.

The conference provides an opportunity for us to come together annually to watch and listen to leading members share their expertise and emerging artists show our community their talents. It really is a celebration of possibility as we look to what has happened in the past and explore what we hope to happen in the future.

St. Petersburg was rated #1 beach in the U.S. by Trip Advisor and is a very family-friendly city. It’s the perfect warm and sunny coastal location to visit in March.

Come celebrate the possibilities with us!

Natali Rodrigues, GAS President
