Tell us about yourself!
My name is Dana Laskowski and I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I started blowing glass in 2005 at the Pittsburgh Glass Center while I was still in high school. Since then, PGC helped me grow tremendously as an artist and as a person. Currently, I am on the tail end of my Tech Apprenticeship with the glass center and look forward to new adventures in Pittsburgh and beyond.

What draws you to the materials you work with?
My first love was glassblowing. The heat, the teamwork, and the music playing in the shop were always motivators for me to work with the hot material.

What themes do you pursue in your work?
Bringing the past back into the present is my current theme. Other ideas I like working with are relationships, dualities, water, femininity, scars, and botany as adornment. My current work is about bringing the marginalia (or doodles) from illuminated manuscripts to life by painting on glass using traditional stained glass techniques. Hopefully someday I will bridge the two together again.

What is your dream project?
My dream project would be a large-scale installation with flameworked + kilnformed flowers and enameled stained glass. I've had the image of Ophelia from Hamlet covered in flowers in the pond haunting me forever, so one day it would be amazing to bring that idea to fruition.

If you weren't working in this field, what career would you choose?
Without a doubt, I would pursue a career in pastry. I love everything about cakes, pastries, breads, everything.

What's something about you that most people don't know?
My high school mascot was a unicorn. To be fair, I went to Pittsburgh CAPA, a Creative and Performing Arts School. I also wore a tiger tail in high school. The tail retired when I turned 18. And no, I'm not a furry.
