Tell us about yourself!
I'm Teresa Childers from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Currently, I am the Director of Glass Programs at Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio. I teach classes as well. I have a BFA in Commercial Art from Western Kentucky University, but I have been working with glass for about 10 years. I started working in glass because it was something I had never tried. After taking several classes, I began experimenting and really enjoyed the many aspects of glass fusing. I try to incorporate things I love from other areas of my life into my artwork. I love books and have created a "tunnel book" effect in my current work.

What draws you to the material you work with, and why have you chosen the processes that you use in your work?
I like to experiment with different mediums and different techniques. Glass allows me to challenge myself to expand my knowledge of this medium. I like the idea of creating sculptural pieces using two dimensional techniques.

What themes do you pursue in your work?
My work revolves around nature. Most of my recent work has been of landscapes, but now I am working on miniatures that include close-ups of birds, butterflies, and flowers. I want to draw viewers into my work by creating three-dimensional views.

What is your dream project?
I would love to create a work of art or a body of work that would be an installation in some amazing venue.

If you weren't working in this field, what career would you choose?
Thinking back to my college years, I think I would have liked to have been a marine biologist. If I had to pick a career now, I would probably like to make artist books.
