Tell us about yourself!
I am Thommy Bremberg, 64 years young living in Lund Sweden where I have my atelier/studio. I work part of the time at Berengo Studio in Murano, Italy and also in Lund.
What draws you to the material you work with?
I started with fusing in 1990 in the Swedish kingdom of glass in Eriksmåla.
I was born in Emmaboda and tried NOT to be a glassworker but my struggle failed in 1990.
I think it was my roots that decided the material I work with, I often combined glass with stone or metal in the beginning.
What themes do you pursue in your work?
I’m called the poet of glass by some people and I like that. I’m often judging mankind with my sculptures, like my installation:
Viruz Bacterielluz Humanus, 2003, Berengo Fine Arts.
See photo of Abused Ammunition / Peacebullet.
“Our old friend Thommy Bremberg, the Swedish glass poet, came back to Murano and created the wonderful new piece, “Abused Ammunition/Peacebullet”, symbolizing mankind doesn’t seem to care but this bullet is crying because of all of the killing it has to take part in…”
What is your dream project?
Actually, I am working on my dream project and it will show up at Palazzo Franchetti at Glasstress 2019 during the Venice Biennale.
If you weren’t working in this field, what career would you choose?
Poet/writer/singer, a Bob Dylan wannabe :)
What is something about you that most people don’t know?
I am a golfer and I love the game of golf.
Why are you a member of GAS?
I am a member of GAS because a friend of mine told me about it and I really like to be a “team member.” It can be a lonely job to be an artist so it’s nice to be part of the GAS family.
