Tell us about yourself!

Hi! My name is Charlyn Reynolds, but my friends call me Charky! I am from Elgin, IL and began glass in 2008 at Illinois State University.

What draws you to the material you work with, and why have you chosen the processes that you use in your work?

My artwork derives from the absurdity of my childhood. I use glass like a bright colorful children’s toy, that can also glow and become a creepy nightlight.

What themes do you pursue in your work?

I create immersive installations of fantastical hybrid creatures that no one has ever seen before. Some of these creatures are a combination of a cheetah-falcon, gorilla-spider, and a manta ray-elephant.

What is your dream project?

My dream is to create a full floor immersive installation in a museum. This installation would bridge fine art and craft, which would also close the gap between the art collector and an average art viewer.
