Joshua DeWall was born and raised in the small town of Galena Illinois. From a young age Mr. DeWall was attracted to the medium of glass and upon graduation from high school, it became his lifelong commitment. Mr. DeWall received a Bachelor of Fine Art from Southern Illinois University and is a MFA candidate from The Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. Joshua has worked nationwide as a glass gaffer, designer, assistant, instructor, and artist at institutions such as: The Pittsburgh Glass Center, The Rochester Institute of Technology, Snow Farm, Williamsburg MA, Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina,The Chrysler Museum Glass Studio in Norfolk, VA and at Benzaiten Center for Creative Arts in Lake Worth, Fl. He has received numerous awards including: a fellowship at The Creative Glass Center of America, Artist Residency at the Works in Newark, OH, publicized in the New Glass Review, and a scholarship to Pilchuck Glass School. Joshua worked as a staff instructor at the Chrysler Museum of Art Glass Studio for three years. He worked for one year as the flameshop studio manager at Benzaiten Center for Creative Arts in Lake Worth, Fl. Joshua was a finalist in the Niche Awards for flame worked glass. He was also a featured visiting instructor at the Sonoran Glass Academy in Tucson, Az and exhibited his work in “New Waves” at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Virginia Beach, VA.
