ABOUT

Evan Burnette was born in Springfield, Illinois, his mother (now retired) was a community theater organizer and U.S. History teacher, his father a professional photographer. Evan graduated with his BFA from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. After graduation Evan moved to the Pacific Northwest where he taught glassblowing to the public in both Oregon and Alaska, and in 2008 Evan started his own company, Local Art Glass. To date, Evan has completed six solo shows across the country. His work has received finalist status in The Illinois Governor’s Colligate Art Competition, The Rickert Ziebolt Trust Awards, The National Sculpture Society Awards, and the Niche Awards, and was featured in The Corning Museum of Glass's "New Glass Review 38." Since receiving his MFA from Ball State University in 2017, Evan has returned to Portland, Oregon where he is reestablishing his own artistic practice, as well as working with regional arts organizations to help bolster community arts in northwestern Oregon. Evan describes his work as "Comic Surrealism," an amalgamation of many of the tenets of early twentieth-century Surrealist thought, and issues related to absurdism, nonsense, as well as other aesthetic and ethical issues related to humor in contemporary society.
