I'm Shilo Parker, I've melted glass lampworking for 16 years, blown glass for 6 years and thrown pottery for 14 years. I got a glass beadmaking kit when I was 14. Making beads in my mom's basement, I fell in love with glass. I was raised in Kearney, Nebraska and I studied Studio Arts at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Currently, I am a glassblower/flameworker for the Make Your Own Glass Program at The Corning Museum of Glass (#IMadeGlass). I love to create, the process itself is what I love most. Being able to make something out of nothing is very satisfying. About 99% of the people I work with every day in the Make Your Own Workshop have never worked with glass before. I love sharing that experience with them. Seeing someone's eyes light up, when they realize the awesomeness of glass is pretty neat. If no one showed me, I wouldn't be where I am today. Spreading the passion has become part of my passion for glass.
