Cheryl Wilson Smith

Red Lake, ON, CANADA

Cheryl Wilson Smith explores the human connection to the land through its spiritual resonance. Her latest work painstakingly layers minute glass particles (frit) to create detailed sculptured objects. These castings are technically challenging, using a method similar to 3d printing. The individual layers are more delicate than torn paper yet, when combined, become fascinating objects contradictory in nature--manifesting both curiosity and beauty, fragility and strength. Most recently, Cheryl attended a residency as a visiting artist/scholar at Washington State University, where she was able to pursue focused study of 3d printing techniques from an artist's perspective. This has furthered Cheryl's understanding of 3d printing and its potential impact on her artistic practice.
