The Glass Art Society (GAS) invites artists to submit proposals for its 47th GAS conference, to be held May 16 – 20, 2018 in Murano, Italy.
The 2018 GAS Conference, themed Il Percorso di Vetro – The Glass Path, will lead attendees through the winding path of the island’s remarkable history while exploring the future of glass and discovering the hidden routes connecting the conference venues. A selection of Murano’s glass factories and studios will provide the Glass Art Society with the incredible opportunity to use these facilities as venues for the conference. In order to accommodate this unique conference experience, we will be honoring their tradition and some programs that are usually featured at our conferences will not be included. As a result, we anticipate an extraordinary program emphasizing demonstrations with less focus on lectures.
The current Italian Steering Committee is comprised of artists and community art supporters Cesare Toffolo, Lucio Bubacco, Davide Salvadore, Marina Tagliapietra, Roberto Donà, Adriano Berengo, the Consorzio Promovetro Murano, and is led by glass maestro Lino Tagliapietra. The 2018 GAS conference is sponsored in part by the Berengo Foundation and the artists of the Italian Steering Committee.
The 2018 conference theme is Il Percorso di Vetro – The Glass Path. We invite individuals and groups to submit proposals for demonstrations, lectures, and panels in hot glass, flameworking, and coldworking. Proposals with content that highlight the theme may be submitted for consideration from now through Monday, March 6, 2017. Due to site logistics, a limited number of proposals will be accepted. We look forward to seeing you in Murano in 2018.
GAS is now accepting proposals for conference presentations that best highlight the theme including lectures, demonstrations, films, and panel discussions.
Please apply under the category you feel would best fit your proposed presentation:
Presentations typically last 1-1.5 hours in duration and generally offer a $400 USD honorarium per slot, which is split by all presenters in that slot. Panels are limited to one moderator ($250 USD honoraria) and 3 panelists ($200 honoraria each). Hot glass demonstrators are allowed one assistant (assistant receives complimentary conference pass). Subject to change.
You do not need to be a GAS member to submit a presentation proposal or to present

Notifications for submitted proposals may be sent any time after the date of the planning meeting. Due to the complicated nature of conference planning, notifications can be made at different times. Fully confirmed presenters may be posted on our website or in promotional material as we receive them. If you have not yet heard back from GAS on your particular proposal, there is still a chance you may be worked into the schedule.
