GAS Student Exhibition: A Showcase of Emerging International Talent 

The Glass Art Society holds a Student Exhibition each year. All artwork is submitted via an online application, then juried for awards and inclusion into the show. 

In 2019, the GAS Student Exhibition: A Showcase of Emerging International Talent will be held at the Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg, FL from March 9 – April 26, 2019. The dates of the annual GAS Conference in St. Petersburg, FL are March 28-30, 2019. 

If students are unable to ship their artwork to St. Petersburg, FL, their artwork will be featured on the GAS website in an Online Exhibition.  Shipping must happen ahead of time (see timeline below.)  Students are encouraged to work with their professors and mentors to coordinate and understand the shipping process.  

Students who are unable to ship their artwork or unable to attend the conference will still be eligible for awards, as all artwork will be juried in advance, via the online application. 

 

The application for consideration is open. Click HERE to submit your work. You will be asked to provide your contact and school/eligibility information, an image (or video link) of your submitted work with a full credit line, and a brief artist statement. Timeline:
December 9, 2018 (11:59 EST): Application process closes
January 15, 2018: Artists notified of selection
January 31, 2019: Artwork deliveries can be received by the Morean beginning January 31. 
February 22, 2019: Artwork must be received by the Morean no later than February 22.
March 9, 2019: Second Saturday local opening reception, 5pm - 9pm.
March 9 – April 26, 2019: Student and Member Exhibition is open to the public.
March 28 - 30, 2019: GAS Conference (Conference Reception: Friday, March 29, 5 - 7pm)
April 29 – May 3: Exhibition de-install and shipment. Artists will need to send a pre-paid shipping label with their art work, unless their artwork is sold. 
 
Awards: A professional jury will evaluate all eligible student entries and select winners. Awardees do not have to be present at the Conference Reception and Awards Ceremony to receive their prizes; but awardees MUST be GAS Student Members through March 31, 3019. Previously, more than $5000 in cash and supplies have been awarded to student winners. To donate a student exhibition award, please email info@glassart.org.
 
Sales: GAS encourages the sale of artwork during the course of the Exhibition. The Morean Arts Center will handle all art sales. Artists will retain 60% of the retail price from all sales during the exhibition. The Morean Arts Center will provide the artist with a check for all works sold no later than May 20, 2019, following the close of the exhibition. You may mark your work as "Not for Sale." All works marked "Not for Sale" must include an insurance value.
 
Shipping: Artwork not sold during the course of the Exhibition will need to be shipped back to the artist. Artists should provide a pre-paid shipping label with their work. You may wait to provide this shipping label until after the close of the Exhibition.
 
Insurance: All artwork will be covered by the Morean Arts Center under its fine art policy while on site during the exhibition, not to exceed 60% of the retail value. Artists are advised to insure their work during transit/shipping.
 
Eligibility and Guidelines:
  • Must be a current student member of the Glass Art Society through April 26, 2019. 
  • Must be enrolled part-time or full-time in an accredited, degree-granting high school or university program.
  • Artwork must feature glass as the primary element and will be selected on the basis of originality, craftsmanship and the creative use of glass.
  • All submitted work must be original and have been created in 2018.
  • The Morean Arts Center will do its best to accommodate all artwork; however, if your artwork requires projection, television screens, additional pedestals, etc., further discussion of display may be required. Please indicate any special needs your artwork may have within the notes section of your application.
  • All work accepted for the exhibition must be no larger than 40 x 40 x 40 inches in size, and a maximum of 50 lbs. in weight. All work must be reasonably adaptable to the facility. 
  • No more than one entry may be submitted per student.

The Glass Art Society reserves the right to deny applications for Technical Display, advertising participation, GAS membership or the conference from anyone for any reason.
