Saxe Emerging Artists Lecture

Each year the Glass Art Society selects a few emerging artists to make short presentations at its annual conference.  Through these lectures, artists with promising talent are afforded the opportunity to introduce their work to a large audience of established artists, educators, peers, collectors, art historians, and critics. Educators and Museum Curators are asked to nominate individuals who meet certain criteria and those nominees are contacted and requested to submit applications. A jury of professionals review all the applicants and determine the presenters for that conference.

International Student Exhibitions

1ST_Mock_Kaila_2011StuExhibit_PlayThings.jpgThe International Student Exhibition occurs at the Annual Glass Art Society conference. All Glass Art Society student members who are currently enrolled full-time in an accredited degree-seeking program (or just graduated that year) are invited to participate. The exhibition is then juried and awards given. In addition, GAS hosts an annual International Student Online Exhibition.

Images from the Annual Conferences

672_06_12_2010.jpgGAS members have been meeting and sharing ideas with each other since 1971, when Fritz Dreisbach and Mark Peiser organized the first GAS conference (at Penland School of Crafts). Some of the special conference moments have been captured in photos, like the one at right showing Stephen Rolfe Powell, Lino Tagliapietra, and Dave Walters during Tagliapietra's demo at GAS 2010 Louisville.
