Tell us about yourself.
My name is Sophie Bourgeois. I am a glassblower for 22 years. My workshop is located on a gorgeous island, the Magdalen Islands, in eastern Canada. That’s where I like to combine flameworking and blown glass.
What draws you to the material you work with?
I love glass for its transparency and for the multiple uses it has! I like how it can be so fragile when thin, and so strong when it is solid! It has so many personalities… you never get tired of it!
If you weren’t working in this field, what career would you choose?
I would still be in the craft field…though there is no other material such as glass!
What’s something about you that most people don’t know?
I have never been to glass school. I have worked my way in the hot shop for 22 years… and I am really proud of it!
Why are you a member of GAS?
I am member of GAS to join a bigger art community and most of all to be part of a glass community outside of my island!
