Through fun demos, myth-busting anecdotes, inspiring examples and the rolling up of sleeves to have a go, this masterclass is hands-on from the start and suited to those that have a passion for neon and would like to embark into two days of illuminating discovery with a celebrated heavy weight figure in the neon industry.
The Colour Displays Masterclass is a coming together of resources, offering the chance to work with neon in furnace hot glass, as well as traditional neon soda glass tubes. There will also be insights into processing glass/neon with kilns as well as the traditional electron bombarding. All of this squeezed into two fast-paced but energising days!
Neon making can be time-consuming and difficult. There are real time constraints here, and this isn’t the class to make a masterpiece, rather a very rare chance at being introduced into something that you may wish to continue exploring. We measure success by you leaving fully intact with a work that inspires and reminds you of a rewarding and memorable experience during your time with us.
No previous experience is necessary and you will leave with at least one handmade glass tube, manipulated through your hands and breath, filled with illuminating gas. The workshop price includes a low voltage neon power supply for every participant.
Colour Displays will be lead by Neon Workshops LTD founder and artist Richard Wheater.
Wheater has been making colour displays for over a decade, whether for Neon Workshops studio as a functional tool for staff and clients, or as lightworks in their own right, presenting neon primarily as the subject, where its varied texture, colour and pattern can be enjoyed side by side without loaded distraction of concept.
