GAS Conference 2027: Kosta, Småland, Sweden
ReKindle: Glass, Sustainability, and the Future of Making
June 2 – 5, 2027
The 2027 Glass Art Society Conference in Kosta, Småland, Sweden, looks boldly toward what comes next.
ReKindle is both a reunion and a reckoning. First envisioned for 2020 and finally able to be realized in 2027, this conference arrives at a moment when the global glass community is asking urgent and exciting questions: How do we make glass in a more sustainable way? How do we honor tradition while embracing change? How do we ensure that glass — its techniques, its histories, its communities — continues to thrive for generations to come?
We invite artists, educators, historians, collectors, technologists, and advocates from around the world to bring their perspectives to these conversations.
CALL FOR PROPOSALS:
Proposals will be welcomed across all areas of glass practice and scholarship between June 18 – July 31, 2026. Particular encouragement goes to work engaging with:
- Sustainability in materials, process, and pedagogy
- Innovation rooted in craft tradition

- The evolving role of glass in art, design, and culture
- Community-building and access within the global glass field
REGISTRATION

ABOUT THE LOCATION:
Kosta, Smaland is where the Kingdom of Crystal begins. Kosta Boda was founded here in 1742 — and the furnaces have not gone cold since. The region’s 14 historic glassworks represent one of the most concentrated living traditions of glass art anywhere in the world. Sweden itself is a country defined by sustainability, respect for craft, and design excellence.
