Things to Do

In addition to the signature IFoG exhibitions which will run until the end of October, there are lots of other exciting activities happening over the Festival weekend.

A full programme will be made available at the end of July, but below is a taster of what visitors can expect:

Artist Demonstrations

Witness some of the best contemporary artists carrying out demonstrations at The World of Glass studio. Artists include Elliot Walker, Agustina Ros, Anna Matszak, Ian Pearson, and Laura Quinn. 

In addition to the demonstrations, we have a number of presentations. Speakers include Saman Kalantari, Alison Stott, Alexander Goodger, and others.

Community Mosaic

We’re proud to welcome Carrie Strope, mosaic artist extraordinaire to the Festival. Throughout the festival weekend, Carrie will be creating a mosaic with help from anyone who wants to lend a hand! The design is being developed with help from the local community, and the final piece will be added to the external wall of The World of Glass as a permanent piece of public art.

Tours

Ever wanted to see behind the scenes at Pilkingtons? Want to find out more about the work of Glass Futures? Interested in the stained glass of Liverpool Cathedral?

We will be offering a number of tours which will highlight the glassy heritage of the area.

Films, films, and more films

Have a break at Lucem House and have the chance to watch a series of films over the weekend which keep glass at its core, including works submitted as part of the GAS Film Festival, having their first ever showing in the UK!

Specialist exhibitions

Exhibitions organised by the British Society of Master Glass Painters as well as the Guild of Glass Engravers will be showcasing their own collections and artist works in some of St Helens most historical locations. For those travelling out to Liverpool, the Walker Art Gallery will be sharing glass works never before seen on public display, including works by artist Peter Layton.

Have you ever considered glass in literature and wanted to try creative writing inspired by the topic? Interested in decorating your own stained glass tea light or engraving a glass? Want to turn your hand to some stained glass techniques? Or maybe you’d like the opportunity to talk with the artists themselves about their work and their inspiration?
