Drew Kail

Tell us about yourself.

I have been a glass artist since 2012, specializing in kilnformed glass. I have worked for Bullseye Glass Company in Portland, Oregon, and The Pittsburgh Glass Center, where I am currently an instructor. In 2015 I co-founded Camp Copeland Studio in Braddock, PA, where I continue to make kilnformed glass art.

What draws you to the material you work with?

I love the process of kilnforming more than anything. I am most interested in understanding how the material works and responds to different processes and temperatures. One of my biggest joys as a glass artist is having a crazy idea and being able to logically think it through so that it can become a reality in my kiln.

What themes do you pursue in your work, and why have you chosen the processes that you use in your work?

Much of my work is inspired by color theory and color psychology. I’m particularly interested in an individual’s relationship to color. Why are we drawn to certain colors and how color can affect our mood?
