Beyond Lampworking – Pittsburgh Glass Center

Monday, July 1 – 5

In this class, we will be incorporating some scientific glassblowing techniques into individual projects. We will primarily use borosilicate glass with a coefficient of expansion of 33. Other COE can be explored if time permits. Ring, blind, and side seals are a few of the scientific glassblowing techniques that will be covered and projects will be scaled to your ability.

We will start with simple projects and build up to more complex items. Some projects include musical instruments, flowers, candle operas, and solid and hollow chain. Bring your ideas, and sketchbooks and be ready to push the limits of lampworking. After taking this class, you will have an understanding of how to put tubes in tubes, use solid with hollow tubing, and feel comfortable with flame adjustments.

Beth Hylen will be our TA so we will also cover some glass history. This class is open to all levels. Come and have a blast with Sally and Beth.
