Tell us about yourself.

I am a Greek American living in the Bay Area, where I have 2 studios that I share with my partner Dean Bensen.  I was fascinated with the molten process of glass blowing from a very young age, but it took me awhile to come to glass as a career.  I teach when I can, but spend most days in my studio sculpting with glass and exploring this amazing medium. More and more of my time is spent working with Dean Bensen, creating our collaborative art installations.

What draws you to the material you work with?

My early works were driven by a process I developed for weaving glass on the torch.  I later learned pate de verre, and love this detailed casting process. I am drawn to the transformative qualities of the material, and its fragility, as a means of communicating.

What themes do you pursue in your work, and why have you chosen the processes that you use in your work?

I draw inspiration from the natural world, to communicate metaphorical bridges between nature and humans beings.  I explore various themes including: memory, identity, transformation, and the environment.

What is your dream project?

A dream project would be something involving the community and kids .  I have volunteered since I was very young, and I love seeing the excitement of someone working with glass for the first time!  I enjoy giving back, and shining a light on glass art.

What is something about you that most people don’t know?

I graduated from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, and used to sit at a desk every day….I eventually found my way to where I was meant to be – working with glass!

Why are you a member of the GAS Board/Staff?

I am a member of the GAS Board because I believe in community, helping others, and giving back.
